Weddings

We’re delighted that you are considering getting married in St Peter and St Paul’s Church or St Mark’s Church in Godalming. Marriage is at the heart of family and community life, and weddings are particularly happy occasions which we love to celebrate. The first step is to check that you qualify to be married in one of our two churches and there are a number of ways you can do this. If you live in the parish, it is straightforward. You can check this by looking up your postcode at A Church Near You.

If you have previous links with us, even if you may no longer live in the Parish, there are other qualifying connections which may enable you to be married here. You will find helpful information on Church of England and Your Church Wedding which deal with many of the practical and legal details.

Every wedding is unique and we will do all we can to make your wedding day a very special occasion for you and your guests. There is much to prepare for so we have created a Wedding Booklet and a Flower Arrangers’ Booklet which we pray will be helpful to you as you look forward to getting married in the parish.

We take seriously our commitment to get to know you as you begin your journey of marriage together, and so we invite you to attend a Pre-Marriage Course, together with other couples who are being married in our churches this year.

All couples getting married in the parish attend this short course which is designed for those who want to give their marriage the best possible start, whether you are exploring marriage for the first time or have been married before. The course is based on Christian principles but is designed for all couples with or without a church background, and is extremely practical in content. Over five sessions you will explore:

Communication, Conflict, Commitment, Connection and Adventure and we know from feedback that it is very much appreciated and enjoyed by the couples who attend.

The course is designed for you as a couple to share together and to help you both build strong foundations for your future together, in a relaxed and safe environment.
